Anyone work in healthcare in Galesburg?

Hello, Poverty rate is 13.9%, which is around average. You can expect to pay around $719 for rent here. Median household income is $45,213, which feels on the lower side for the area. The unemployment rate is 2.3%, which is pretty low. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. Let me know your thoughts. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want pet-friendliness, then yeah this place is great. But if outdoor recreation matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Houston about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Diverse dining options
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are manageable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The healthcare is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Riverside) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
