Is Galesburg still affordable?

OK so My family moved here when I was a kid. Crime rate is something to consider -Galesburg sits at 456.7 per 100K.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Uptown) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Eastside. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in consulting. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say I genuinely enjoy living here. The school system is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
