Life in Galesburg as a young professional

Random thought, The unemployment rate is 2.3%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $719/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Worth the trade-offs? Thanks! The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Austin it's hit or miss.
