Golden Glades quality of life -am I missing something?

I work in food service and Average temperature is around 76--F, so it's warm year-round. Rent is about $1,444/month for a decent place. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Worth the trade-offs? The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 15 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Bought a house here in 2022 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 57, moved here 9 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in Westside and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited entertainment options
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The public transit situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for retirees. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $60K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Austin about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've lived in Oak Park for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- The outdoor recreation scene is tough

The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 11 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is hit or miss.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Old Town for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
- The public transit scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely decent and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
