Just moved here 16 months ago and Crime rate is something to consider -Golden Valley sits at 82.1 per 100K. Rent is about $1,815/month for a decent place. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from New York about 6 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Homeless population growing downtown
Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 6 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Pine Hills for 10 years. Moved from Phoenix for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Pine Hills schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Dating scene is rough. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
