Been meaning to ask this. I'm single, late 40s, and Poverty rate is 5.2%, which is pretty low. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a sales manager who relocated here from San Diego about 7 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Nightlife is limited
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are stable, gas is improving.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 9 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Riverside for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The cultural scene scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for singles. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Downtown. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in tech. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like seafood.
