Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely challenging and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Old Town) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the Pine Hills side, now on the Downtown side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's been a really good experience overall. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 32, moved here 15 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Midtown and Downtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The cultural scene situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Midtown: Great for remote workers. improving vibes, walkable.
- Downtown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2020 and it's exactly what I was looking for. Property values have gone about the same since then.

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much reasonable but now it's hit or miss.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 9 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into running, this place is surprisingly good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The school system scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Good luck with whatever you decide..
