Freelancing from Grandview -experience?

Alright, I relocated for work and Rent is about $1,058/month for a decent place. With a population of 11,042, Grandview is a small town. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 52, moved here 11 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Oak Park and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The job market situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for retirees. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $90K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Old Town. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 15 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in East for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The cost of living scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Not very walkable outside downtown

The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
construction is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is average - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Limited high-paying job options. And traffic can be frustrating.
