Hello, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and With a population of 14,596, Great Bend is a small town. Median household income is $53,323, which feels on the lower side for the area. It's a a small town city with about 14,596 people. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The food scene is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 2 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Midtown. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Hope this helps!.

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Highland) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2023 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone up a bit since then.
