Not sure if this has been asked before, but Military spouse here. Household incomes average around $74,725 in Greencastle. Average temperature is around 55--F, so the weather is moderate. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Meadowbrook. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in education. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like sushi.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Came here for weather and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The nightlife is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.
I've been here 12 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Lakewood side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Charlotte about 9 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are wild, gas is solid.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Definitely worth checking out..
