Freelancing from Hammond -experience?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm single, late 40s, and You can expect to pay around $932 for rent here. Crime rate is something to consider -Hammond sits at 1,175.6 per 100K. Homes are going for about $219,400 on average. The unemployment rate is 3.2%, which is pretty low. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Bought a house here in 2015 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely improving and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Fairview) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
