Curious what people think. It's a a small town city with about 20,790 people. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Cedar Grove. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in legal. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Hope this helps!.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 14 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is underrated.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's improved dramatically in recent years. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The traffic is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Midtown area are average. Kids love it here.

Came here for retirement and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The cost of living is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 3 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is pretty good.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The cultural scene is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
