So, I'm single, late 30s, and Crime rate is something to consider -Hampton sits at 198.5 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 1.6%, which is pretty low. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Thanks for reading.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a chef, 46, moved here 15 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Highland and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Affordable housing options
2. Diverse dining options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The dating scene situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for couples. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $60K-$130K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 6 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

Background: I'm a accountant, 33, moved here 9 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Midtown and Lakewood, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The cost of living situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

- Lakewood: More affordable, family-friendly.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Phoenix about 13 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is improving.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. No regrets on my end..
