Why I chose Harbor Springs over bigger cities

My family moved here when I was a kid. Median household income is $60,556, which feels about average for the area. The median home value here is around $368,100, which seems about average. Poverty rate is 5.0%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 44--F, so bundle up in winter. You can expect to pay around $950 for rent here. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Nice parks and trails
- Growing food scene
- Low taxes
- Easy commute

Cons:
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Not enough green space
Am I overthinking this? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 7 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..
