How safe is Hartford really?

I've been looking at the stats and Hartford shows a violent crime rate of 858 per 100K which is above average. But stats don't always tell the full story. For people who actually live there — do you feel safe? Are there areas to avoid?

I'm especially interested in hearing from retirees.

I've lived in Eastside for 4 years and it's decent, has its pros and cons.

The job market has been improving lately. Several government companies moved in recently.

I'd add that the parks here are amazing for families. Otherwise spot on!

If you can afford it, Riverside is the best place to live. Period.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Cedar Hills. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.

Traffic is the worst part honestly. But if you live near work it's fine.

Weather is the biggest factor for us. Four seasons are nice, not too extreme either way.

Don't sleep on Cedar Hills. It's up and coming and still affordable.

Downtown is overrated and overpriced. The suburbs offer way better value.
