Havre is underrated, change my mind

Been meaning to ask this. We're a young couple and Rent is about $802/month for a decent place. The unemployment rate is 1.9%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $802 for rent here. Poverty rate is 12.1%, which is around average. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Strong sense of community
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events

Cons:
- Cold winters
- Not very walkable
- Homelessness issues downtown
Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from San Diego about 2 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is challenging.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Uptown for 14 years. Moved from LA for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are developing for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Limited entertainment options. And school system can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 8/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 5 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, It's not for everyone but it works for us..
