Honest thoughts on life in Havre

We have two kids and Poverty rate is 12.1%, which is around average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Am I wrong here? Property taxes are high but you get good services.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in North. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Highland for 14 years. Moved from Charlotte for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Chain restaurants dominate. And healthcare can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 8/10. Definitely worth checking out.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in East for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
- The dating scene scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Limited shopping options
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

We moved here with our family and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Schools in Oak Park area are excellent. Kids love it here.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is underrated in most areas.
