Cost of living reality check -Homeland Park

I've been here for 20 years and The unemployment rate is 9.3%, which is concerning. Median household income is $38,079, which feels on the lower side for the area. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Should I be concerned?

I'm a data analyst and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. The community is average and there's always something going on.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. food scene used to be much competitive but now it's excellent.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely challenging and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Charlotte, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Midtown for 9 years. Moved from Atlanta for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
the quality of life is solid. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Limited high-paying job options. And pet-friendliness can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 7/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I'm a data analyst and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.
