Thinking about relocating to Hornell from Cleveland
Poverty rate is 16.6%, which is higher than I expected. Crime rate is something to consider -Hornell sits at 59.2 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 8,173 people. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 9 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in East for 12 years. Moved from Chicago for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor scene is underrated - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. East schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Limited high-paying job options. And weather can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 7/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been here 12 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Bought a house here in 2023 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much stable but now it's surprisingly good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from New York about 14 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and school.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Summers can be brutally hot
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are pricey, gas is decent.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. No regrets on my end..
