First post here. I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Rent is about $1,038/month for a decent place. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Has anyone dealt with this? The weather takes some getting used to.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in East. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in retail. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

I've lived in The Heights for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The food scene scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Definitely worth checking out..

I work in real estate here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is better than expected. Hope this helps!.
