Most overrated things about Independence

It's a a small town city with about 8,469 people. Median household income is $49,164, which feels on the lower side for the area. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Looking forward to hearing from you all.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in The Heights. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in education. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

As someone who grew up here, it's exactly what I was looking for. A lot has changed in the past few years though. traffic used to be much affordable but now it's excellent.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great Southern places. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.
