How safe is Indianapolis really?

I've been looking at the stats and Indianapolis shows a violent crime rate of 1255 per 100K which is above average. But stats don't always tell the full story. For people who actually live there — do you feel safe? Are there areas to avoid?

I'm especially interested in hearing from young professionals.

The job market has been improving lately. Several tech companies moved in recently.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Midtown and Westside are perfectly safe.

I'd add that the parks here are amazing for families. Otherwise spot on!

For families, I'd recommend looking at Midtown. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.

Weather is the biggest factor for us. Four seasons are nice, not too extreme either way.
