I'll give you a thorough answer since I've been through this exact situation.
I moved to Fall Creek Place from Portland about 12 years ago. Initially everything felt unfamiliar. But after settling in, Cost of living is {col_feel} compared to where I came from..
A few things I'd recommend:
- Check out Fall Creek Place and Mass Ave for housing
- Get a car if you don't have one - transit is limited
- Give it at least 6 months before deciding if it's for you
The biggest adjustment was weather. People here are friendlier than I expected coming from {other}.. Overall I'd give Indianapolis a 8/10 for retirees.

I'd highly recommend checking out Fall Creek Place. Nightlife is decent if you know where to go.. Plus the food options around there are decent.

Great question. Here's my honest take after 7 years:
The good:
- Friendly locals
- Good healthcare options
- Pet-friendly city
The not-so-good:
- Hard to date here
- Road conditions
The weather took some getting used to but I actually love it now.. I'd say for singles, Indianapolis is hit or miss.

Alright, I'm going to write the reply I wish someone had written for me when I was researching Indianapolis.
Background: 36, teacher, moved from Atlanta 2 years ago for a fresh start. Currently in Meridian-Kessler.
**Housing:**
The market is great right now. We went with Meridian-Kessler because friends recommended it. Paid /mo starting out, now at /mo. If I could do it again, I'd look at Noblesville - it's established and the value is better.
**Work:**
marketing jobs are stable here. I was worried coming from Atlanta but the market is promising. Salary-wise, expect about 10-15% less than coastal cities.
**Social Life:**
This was my biggest worry. First 11 months were tough. Then I found my people through a board game night. Now I have a solid group. Indianapolis people are warm once you break through.
**Day to Day:**
- Groceries: about average
- Traffic: not as bad as people say
- Dining out: surprisingly excellent
- Entertainment: great if you like outdoor stuff
**Would I move here again?**
The community in {hood} is really tight-knit.. For young professionals, I'd give it a 8/10.

Let me give you the perspective nobody asked for but everyone needs.
I've lived in Meridian-Kessler, Mass Ave, and currently in Zionsville. Each one feels like a different city honestly.
Rent comparison:
- Meridian-Kessler: /mo for a 2-bed
- Mass Ave: about /mo
- Zionsville: /mo but pretty good
The parks system here is underrated.. The key is finding your neighborhood. Once you do, Indianapolis really clicks. Hope that helps!
