Worst things about Indianapolis nobody talks about
I'm a remote worker and Median household income is $62,995, which feels about average for the area. The median home value here is around $207,000, which is actually reasonable. Poverty rate is 11.6%, which is around average. You can expect to pay around $1,112 for rent here. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Anyone in a similar situation? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if public transit matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 3 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..
