Top 5 things I love about Keene

Hey folks, I'm retired and With a population of 6,574, Keene is a small town. Poverty rate is 13.4%, which is around average. Crime rate is something to consider -Keene sits at 151.9 per 100K. Rent is about $950/month for a decent place. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. Thoughts? The suburbs are where most families end up.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely tough and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Riverside) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.
