Hey folks, I'm a 52-year-old chef and Rent is about $1,131/month for a decent place. Median household income is $59,462, which feels about average for the area. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Anyone in a similar situation? The city has invested a lot in new development.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, Hope this helps!.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is average in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely excellent and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (The Heights) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely improving and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Sunset) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

I've lived in Midtown for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Seattle, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- The community vibe scene is better than expected
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. No regrets on my end..

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.
