Unpopular opinion about Kerman

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Military spouse here. Homes are going for about $331,500 on average. The median home value here is around $331,500, which seems about average. The unemployment rate is 5.1%, which is about average. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What are your go-to spots? Thanks in advance! It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Bought a house here in 2024 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 40, moved here 10 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in West and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The dating scene situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for families. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for family and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The outdoor recreation is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in North. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is housing market. Other than that, Definitely worth checking out..
