Anyone else feel this way? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Thanks in advance!

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Tampa about 7 years ago. The main reasons were school and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Affordable housing options
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is challenging.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a data analyst who relocated here from San Francisco about 8 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are affordable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 43, moved here 14 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Fairview and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Active local events and festivals
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The food scene situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for remote workers. tough vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $50K-$120K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely challenging and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Springfield) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

The food scene here is decent. Tons of great BBQ places. I love the pace of life here.
