What surprised you most about Lake Oswego?

Longtime lurker here, I'm a 24-year-old nurse and With a population of 40,367, Lake Oswego is a smaller city. The unemployment rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $894,000, which is pretty steep. Crime rate is something to consider -Lake Oswego sits at 60.2 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Nice parks and trails
- Diverse community
- Lots of new development
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Limited public transit
- Rising rent prices
- Boring for young people
What neighborhoods would you suggest? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

I've been living here for 6 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The pet-friendliness is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a nurse, 30, moved here 9 years ago from Dallas. I've lived in Oak Park and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Strong sense of community
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited entertainment options
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The cultural scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for couples. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Dallas, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is wild. You can live comfortably on $40K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are better than expected and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 13 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are better than expected, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Salt Lake City it's decent.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely solid and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Eastside) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
