Longtime lurker here, I'm retired and Crime rate is something to consider -Lakeland Highlands sits at 446.6 per 100K. Median household income is $106,012, which feels pretty solid for the area. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 1 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (West) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Raleigh it's solid.

I've lived in Eastside for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Lots of new development happening
- The public transit scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Nightlife is limited
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Bought a house here in 2018 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone about the same since then.
