Is it worth buying in Lihue?

First post here. The median home value here is around $843,900, which is pretty steep. Poverty rate is 2.5%, which is pretty low. With a population of 7,847, Lihue is a small town. Household incomes average around $77,420 in Lihue. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Pros:
- Low crime in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- Walkable downtown

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Rising rent prices
- Sprawl everywhere
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Chain restaurants dominate

Used to live on the North side, now on the Maple Ridge side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is average in most areas.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 8 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

I've been living here for 4 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The food scene is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
