We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Highland area are underrated. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Midtown. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in tech. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from San Francisco about 2 years ago. The main reasons were family and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (The Heights) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Property taxes are high. Dating scene is rough. And traffic can be frustrating.

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The traffic is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..
