Moving to Logansport with kids -good idea?

Random thought, I'm retired and The median home value here is around $84,600, which is actually reasonable. You can expect to pay around $770 for rent here. Homes are going for about $84,600 on average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Sunset area are challenging. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Miami about 1 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is improving.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely tough and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Not a lot of cultural diversity.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2021 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 48, moved here 2 years ago from LA. I've lived in Old Town and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The community vibe situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for families. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $70K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
