Hi all, I relocated for work and Crime rate is something to consider -Manhattan sits at 813.0 per 100K. Rent is about $1,019/month for a decent place. With a population of 53,951, Manhattan is a smaller city. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Pine Hills. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in government. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely average and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Sunset) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much established but now it's underrated.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Minneapolis about 2 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is challenging.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Hope this helps!.
