Alright, We have two kids and Household incomes average around $134,479 in Manor. Crime rate is something to consider -Manor sits at 121.5 per 100K. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely hit or miss and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (East) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Oak Park. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Thai.
Hope this helps!.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Raleigh about 14 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited shopping options
Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are manageable, gas is tough.
Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Good luck with whatever you decide..

If you value safety, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely improving and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Downtown) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Used to live on the Eastside side, now on the Highland side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.
