Anyone else feel this way? I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Crime rate is something to consider -Marion sits at 988.3 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $1,058 for rent here. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. What neighborhoods would you suggest? The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely decent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Uptown) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Chicago, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. Definitely worth checking out..

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.
