First post here. I'm retired and The unemployment rate is 5.2%, which is about average. Median household income is $58,542, which feels about average for the area. It's a a small town city with about 1,071 people. Poverty rate is 9.1%, which is pretty low. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

I've been here 9 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is decent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much affordable but now it's solid.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

I've lived in Eastside for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The cultural scene scene is tough
The downsides:
- Limited entertainment options
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is decent.

Hope this helps!.

Came here for school and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The pet-friendliness is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
