Is Medford getting better or worse?

Military spouse here. Average temperature is around 59--F, so the weather is moderate. Poverty rate is 12.0%, which is around average. The unemployment rate is 1.1%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $814 for rent here. Homes are going for about $65,600 on average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Walkable downtown
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Hot summers
- Rising rent prices
- Sprawl everywhere
- Not very walkable
What neighborhoods would you suggest? Thanks! It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Springfield for 8 years. Moved from Salt Lake City for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Springfield schools are decent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Can feel isolated. Limited entertainment options. And safety can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
