As a 6-year resident, here are some things about Menifee that don't make it into the guides:
1. The local music scene is really vibrant
2. Community events happen almost every weekend
3. The local craft beer scene is legit

Don't sleep on Maple Heights. It's up and coming and still affordable.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Riverside and Lakewood are perfectly safe.
