Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The weather is honestly hit or miss and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from LA about 13 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is decent.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 1 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
