Anyone else feel this way? Median household income is $59,938, which feels about average for the area. It's a a smaller city city with about 89,766 people. Homes are going for about $347,700 on average. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. Should I be concerned? Looking forward to hearing from you all. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I've lived in Downtown for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Affordable housing options
- The outdoor recreation scene is tough
The downsides:
- Can feel isolated
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for singles. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a social worker, 43, moved here 13 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Uptown and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Low crime in most neighborhoods
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Limited shopping options
3. The job market situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for families. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are pricey. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Seattle about 10 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a fresh start.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good healthcare facilities
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is excellent.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
