Job market in Merced for tech?

OK so It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

I've lived in East for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- The cultural scene scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Nightlife is limited

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Uptown. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in government. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

The food scene here is improving. Tons of great farm-to-table places. I love the pace of life here.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is nightlife. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.
