Moving to Merced -what should I know?

Random thought, Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is weather. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say it's exactly what I was looking for. The public transit is solid compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Sunset. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in education. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Sunset for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The nightlife scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
