Moving to Miami -what should I know?

First post here. I'm a nurse at the local hospital and With a population of 12,960, Miami is a small town. The median home value here is around $102,600, which is actually reasonable. Household incomes average around $45,900 in Miami. Rent is about $804/month for a decent place. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. What are your go-to spots? Thanks! People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Dallas about 14 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Property taxes are high

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely tough and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Sunset) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely tough and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Midtown) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
