Been meaning to ask this. We have two kids and You can expect to pay around $2,288 for rent here. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. What do you all think? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 7 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Uptown. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in consulting. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
