OK so I'm single, late 50s, and You can expect to pay around $860 for rent here. With a population of 5,504, Monticello is a small town. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Anyone in a similar situation? The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

I work in engineering here and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The job market for my field is excellent. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is cultural scene. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Sunset. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
