Quick question about Monticello

Hello, The unemployment rate is 5.4%, which is about average. Homes are going for about $152,600 on average. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The weather takes some getting used to. Does this match your experience? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely average and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 52, moved here 15 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Eastside and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally solid - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The cost of living situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Eastside: Great for retirees. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $90K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is surprisingly good in most areas.
