Unpopular opinion about Morro Bay

First post here. Homes are going for about $864,900 on average. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's been a really good experience overall. Internet is solid in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from Charlotte about 7 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are manageable, gas is average.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Downtown for 10 years. Moved from Phoenix for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2019 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are affordable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is improving - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Summers can be brutally hot. And nightlife can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 8/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
