Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Bought a house here in 2023 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 10 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The food scene is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor recreation is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Used to live on the Highland side, now on the Oak Park side. Completely different vibe. it exceeded my expectations.
