How are the schools in Nederland?

OK so Been living here since 2013. The unemployment rate is 2.2%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $75,502, which feels about average for the area. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Is this normal for Nederland?

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Midtown. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 57, moved here 1 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in Maple Ridge and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The community vibe situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Maple Ridge: Great for remote workers. tough vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $80K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
